Telang's Two Goals Leads Bears to First Win of the Season

GORHAM, Maine – Senior Luke Telang scored a goal in each half leading the Bears to the 4-0 win over Castleton for the team's first win of the season in the final day of the Husky Fall Classic hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

Telang, senior Austin Read and junior Garett MaGill were each named to the Husky Fall Classic all-tournament team

With the win, Coast Guard improves to 1-1 while the Spartans fall to 0-2 on the season.

Telang's two goals were the 12th of his career and his 30th point. Sophomore Gio Ottomanelli  added his first three career points with a goal and an assist, while MaGill scored the other. Senior Ryan Dandan and junior Landon Klopfenstein notched one point each with second half assists.

Telang got the scoring started in the 24th minute as he controlled the ball 25 yards out and ripped a low drive to the far post for the team's first goal of the season.

Magill scored the next goal for the Bears as Ottomanelli slotted him in behind the Castleton defense allowing him to slip in his first goal of the year with 35:08 on the clock.

Just over seven minutes into the second half Telang scored his second of the game as Klopfenstein fed him for the goal and a 3-0 lead .

Ottomanelli finished off the scoring in the 75th minute as he took a pass from Dandan and fired home his first collegiate goal giving the Bears the 4-0 win.

Senior Jake Sorenson (1-0) earned his first win of the season making one save on one shot on goal in 80:53 minutes of work. Junior William Bragaw played the final 9:07 for Coast Guard making one save on one shot on goal securing the shutout for the Bears.

Senior Aaron Parker (0-1) made five saves on nine shots on goal allowing four goals in 80:11 of work. Freshman Alex Fernald played the final 9:49 facing zero shots on goal.

Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, Septemeber 6th, when they travel to Providence Rhode Island to take on Johnson & Wales in non-conference action. Kickoff is 6:30.
