NEW LONDON, Conn.-As the fall semester winds down and our Cadet-Athletes are wrapped up in exams the Athletic Department will take a look at the Top Moments from the Coast Guard fall sports season. The Department has compiled a top-ten list and will unveil one a day for ten business days starting with number ten and culminating with the announcement of the top moment on Tuesday, December 24th.
Today we'll look at the #8 moment from the fall season in our Top Moments series which is a combination of events. Men's soccer coach Chris Parsons won his 100th game and the Bears got goals late in double-overtime in both the regular-season finale and conference tournament to salvage their season twice.
On September 28th, Coast Guard defeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference for Clark 3-0 as Coach Parsons won his 100th career game at the Academy. The Bears are now 105-93-25 (26-35-12 NEWMAC) all-time with a pair of ECAC Championships under the direction of Coach Parsons.
In addition to the milestone victory, there would be much more excitement in the soccer season. With just 1:53 left to play in their season, senior Kyle Grell scored a double-overtime goal to knock off Springfield and propel Coast Guard into the NEWMAC Tournament at the #4 seed. Not to be out-done, Bears junior John Tarzian would score a goal 2:23 into the second overtime in the conference tournament opener as Coast Guard eliminated Springfield with a double-overtime goal for the second time in just five days.
Stay tuned as tomorrow's installment of the Top Moment series will reveal the #7 moment from the fall season.
