PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Junior Joe Bodzewski scored the only goal of the game leading Coast Guard to its fourth straight shutout win, a 1-0 victory at Johnson & Wales in a non-conference game.
The Bears registered their fourth straight shutout win to improve to 7-3 on the season as sophomore Richie Burns, the two-time reigning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Week, made five saves to register his fourth shutout of the season and improve to 7-1 on the year. Burns has not allowed a goal in 357 consecutive minutes.
Bodzewski scored 8:10 into the match, his team-high tying third goal of the season, with senior Greg Kennerley and sophomore John Tarzian assisting, his first of the season.
Coast Guard has already surpassed its win total from last season when the team finished 6-9-1.
The Bears outshot Johnson & Wales 10-7.
"We scored a greatt set piece goal tonight and defended extremely well on really small, difficult field to play on," said Coast Guard head coach Chris Parsons. " Kennerley's service to Trazian was excellent and John' decision to play the ball to Bodzewski was very smart."
Coast Guard is back in action when they host Wheaton in a key NEWMAC game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
