Johnson, McNulty Sweep NEWMAC Weekly Awards

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Sophomore Riley McNulty and junior Trey Johnson swept the NEWMAC weekly awards after an exciting week for Coast Guard men's lacrosse.

Johnson earned NEWMAC defensive athlete of the week honors as he remained undefeated on the season with two victories including a 10-9 OT upset win over No. 2 Wesleyan. Johnson made 11 saves in the Bears victory over the Cardinals followed by another five in Coast Guard's 11-4 win against Goucher. He leads the NEWMAC with a 4.98 goals against average and as of March 8th was 19th in the country in the same category. He has not allowed more than nine goals in any games this season.

McNulty took home NEWMAC offensive athlete of the week honors after he finished the week with a team high nine points including four goals and an assists leading all scorers in Coast Guard's 10-9 OT upset win over No. 2 Wesleyan. His two goals in the fourth quarter against the Cardinals forced overtime allowing the Bears to win it with 32 seconds left in the first OT period. McNulty is second in the NEWMAC with 17 points on the season and tied for third with 13 goals.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, March 13th, when they take on No. 16 Ithaca in Virginia Beach. Opening face off is 1:00 pm.
