BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Jack Pope was named NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for helping the Bears to a 2-0 week with nine points on eight goals and one assist.
Pope started the week on Wednesday scoring his fifth hat trick of the season, including two key second half goals helping the Bears knock of nine time defending conference champion Springfield 9-8.
Coast Guard became only the third team since 2006 to beat Springfield during the conference regular season. Western New England topped the Pride once in 2006 and once in 2007 when it was still the Pilgrim League and then Babson managed to earn a victory against them in 2015 in the second year as the NEWMAC. Springfield was 73-3 since 2006 in conference play coming into Wednesday night's game and had never lost a home game in NEWMAC play.
In the Bears 18-6 victory over Emerson, Pope had a game high six points with five goals and one assist. On his second goal of the game, Pope broke Justin Huemme's record of 49 career goals and took sole ownership of the top spot. Pope now has 53 career goals and is the first player to score 50 goals in program history.
Coast Guard is back in action this Wednesday, April 26th, when they host Mass. Maritime. Opening face is 7:00.
