BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Colin Cashin and freshman Riley McNulty won NEWMAC Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week honors as they helped the men's lacrosse team to their first NEWMAC win of the season, topping Wheaton 15-5.
Cashin had a phenomenal week at the face-off x winning 34-46 (73.9%) and helping the Bears top the Lyons 15-5. Cashin was 15-17 with 12 ground balls against the Lyons and then tied a program record for most ground balls in a single game with 15 against Merchant Marine. Cashin leads the NEWMAC with 107 ground balls on the season and 160 won face-offs. As of April 14th Cashin is sixth in Division III in face-off winning percentage (.708) and tied for 16th in ground balls per game (8.92).
McNulty set the programs single season point record this past week. McNulty had four points with three goals and an assist against Wheaton. His first goal of the night broke Louis Depaolis's record of 36 points in a single season and he now has 43 on the season. He finished the week with seven points on six goals and one assist. McNulty is second in the NEWMAC in goals (28) and is fifth in points (43) and leads the team in both categories this season.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow, April 19th, when they travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on the Springfield Pride. Opening face is 7:00 pm.
