The Coast Guard men's lacrosse team swept the weekly New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) awards as freshman Trey Johnson was named Defensive Player of the Week and Justin Huemme was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Johnson went 2-0 on the week helping Coast Guard surpass their season win total from a year ago as the team improved to 5-2. Johnson made 12 saves and only allowed seven goals in the Bears 10-7 win against Maritime (N.Y.). In Coast Guard's second win of the week Johnson played 35 minutes making two saves and allowing two goals in a victory over Regis (15-5). Johnson currently leads the NEWMAC in save percentage (61.5), goals against (30) and goals-against average (6.14) and as of March 25th he is 19th in the nation in save percentage.
Huemme had two goals in the win against Maritime (N.Y.) and then had a game high four points with three goals and an assist in the victory over Regis. Huemme is currently second on the team in goals(14) and points (15) for the season. He is also tied for 10th in the conference in goals and fourth in shots (53).
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday, April 2nd, when they open NEWMAC competition with a game against MIT. Opening face-off is 1:00.
