THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - Coast Guard used a six goal outburst in the second quarter to pull away from Maritime (N.Y.) on their way to a 10-7 victory Wednesday night in nonconference action.
With the win the Bears improve to 4-2 while the Privateers fall to 4-2 on the season.
Freshman Anthony Wyler had his first career hat trick scoring three goals and adding one assist on his way to a game high four points. Senior Justin Huemme had two goals while freshman Ian Logan and Junior Blaise Curtis had a goal and an assist each.
Sophomore Ian Danahy led Maritime (N.Y.) with three goals while sophomore Nick Pelligrino had two goals and an assist. Sophomore Julius Diaz added two more goals for the Privateers.
Maritime (N.Y.) held a one goal advantage at the end of the first quarter as they went up 2-1 on goals by Diaz and Pellegrino.
Coast Guard erupted in the second quarter led by Logan (one goal, one assist) and Wyler (two goals) for six goals giving the Bears a 7-3 lead going in the second half.
The second quarter run was key for Coast Guard as the Privateers held a 4-3 advantage in goals in the second half. Maritime (N.Y.) even got as close as 7-6 in the third quarter but the Bears defense turned them back allowing only one more goal in the fourth period to finish off a 10-7 victory.
Freshman Trey Johnson allowed seven goals and made 13 saves pushing his season record to 3-1.
Sophomore Brendan McNally allowed ten goals and made 13 saves dropping his season record to 4-2.
Freshman Colin Cashin went head to head with senior Matt Hayes, 22nd in the nation in face off winning percentage (.674), and was able to win 5-12 as Hayes took 11-18.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday, March 26 when they host Regis College at 1:00 pm.
