Bears Win PCLL Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Stuart Carley scored four of this team-high six goals in the second quarter eading Coast Guard to a 15-6 win over Briarcliffe in the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League (PCLL) Division II tournament championship game.
 
The Bears, who improve to 11-4 on the season, earn an automatic bid to the national tournament in California beginning on May 12th. The Bears first round game will be Monday, May 12th at UC Irvine against an opponent to be announced. The quarterfinals, also in Irvine, will be played on Tuesday before the semifinals (May 15th) and championship game (May 17th) will be played at Chapman University in Orange, California.

Coast Guard started the season 0-3, but won 11 of its last 12, the only loss in the last 12 games was a 12-9 loss at Briarcliffe on April 18th.

Briarcliffe jumped out a 3-1 lead in the first quarter before Carley and junior John Tarzian scored to tie the game 3-3 after the first quarter.

The Bears took control by dominating play in the second quarter by outscoring Briarcliffe 6-0 to take a 9-3 halftime lead.

Carley had four goals in the quarter while sophomore Louis DePaolis and senior Eric Schmid also scored as the Bears took control of the game.

Schmid had a pair of third quarter goals while DePaolis added another as the Bears led 12-5 after three.

DePaolis and Carley each had three goals in the win while Tarzian added a pair of goals for the Bears.
