Bears Close out Fall Season at Head of the Schulykill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The fall racing season is over for the CGA Rowing team and it need with a good showing at the Head of the Schuylkill.

"We were able to race 24 rowers in four races on Saturday and are looking toward the Spring with over two full eights intact and ready to train and race this Spring.  This will be the first time in quite a few years that the CGA Men's Rowing team wil be able to race two eights during the spring season," said head coach Bill Randall.

The weekend started with the cadets representing CGA at a memorial for Bill Stowe at the Vesper Boat Club where Bill's Olympic gold medal was presented to the club by his widow, Barb Stowe.  The cadets heard stories about the coach who founded CGA Crew and represtd the academy well.

The novice four had one of their best rows of the Fall and passed a couple of boats in a successful closing to their first 10 weeks of rowing. The open four started strong and then had stealing problems as weeds became attached to the fin. Aoife tried valiantly to regain control by sinking her arm in up to her shoulder to create drag, but could not shake the weeds.  The two eights had a good showing with the first eight in ninth and the second in 20th out of 40 boats.
