NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard men's rowing team lost its opening race of the season to Wesleyan. The Cardinals rowed a time of 6:31.37 while the Bears crossed the line in 6:46.28.
"We had talked about needing a good start and strong first 500m," said Coast Guard head coach Colin Regan. "Both crews actually had a strong first 1000m with Wesleyan coming through the line only about three seconds ahead of us."
Regan would go on to say, "the second half of the race was not great for either crew as both went significantly slower. I would attribute this to the relatively small amount of water time had by crews in the northeast."
"Bottom line we have plenty of clarity in where we stand and what we need to work on going forward," commented Regan. "This group has been tremendously successful with stepping up when asked to do so."
Coast Guard is back in action Saturday, April, 4th when they travel to Boston College for a meet with Boston College and Bates.
