SHELTON, Conn.--The CGA Men's Rowing Team competed in the 18th Head of the Housatonic on Saturday on a 2.5 mile course on Housatonic River with the regatta venue at Indian Wells State Park.
The Head of the Housatonic is one of the largest single-day head races in the country attracting rowers of all levels -- from novice to elite, junior to veteran master. Under sunny skies and a building tailwind, the Bears finished 4th out of 12 entries in the Collegiate 8 event. The line-up of Alex Kloo (So) at stroke, Sean Murphy (So), Andrew Horvath (Sr), Dave Parker (Sr), Brendan Magnuson (Jr), Brennan Lee (Sr), Connor Stevens (Sr), Bryce Monaco (So) and coxswain Peter Driscoll (So) had a strong row and completed the course in 14:44:23, eight seconds out of bronze medal position. The event was won by Wesleyan in a time of 14:14:82.
Immediately following return to the launch area, Alex Kloo, Dave Parker, Andrew Horvath, Brennan Lee and Pete Driscoll jumped in to a 4+ for the Collegiate Four event while Bryce Monaco joined fellow teammates Luke Carani (So), Ben McKeathen (Jr), Justin Davis (So) and coxswain Lindsay Grim and launched as the second entry in the event.
Although short on rest, Kloo, Parker, Horvath and Lee were long on perseverance as they rowed to a silver medal out of 15 entries in a time of 16:17:58 finishing well ahead of rivals Wesleyan, Merchant Marine Academy, Mass Maritime Academy and UConn. CGA's second entry in the event rowed to an 11th place finish with a time of 17:53:87. The event was won by Williams in a time of 15:58:27.
The Men will next be in action in Boston at the Head of the Charles in the Collegiate Men's Four event to be contest at 3:40 pm on Saturday, October 20.
