Baldez Brothers Lead Bears to 7th Straight Win

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Micah and Noah Baldez combined for 40 points with Micah finishing with a game-high 21 points and Noah scoring a career best 19 points leading Coast Guard to its seventh straight win a 76-68 win over Maine-Presque Isle.

The Bears improve to 7-1 on the season while Maine-Presque Isle drops to 4-6 overall. Coast Guard's seven straight wins are the most since the team won 13 straight in the 2007-'08 season before the streak  was snapped in the Elite 8 to end the season.

The 7-1 start is also the best since that 2008-'09 team started with nine straight wins.

Coast Guard used a 15-2 run in the first half turning a 13-11 lead with 13:46 left into a 28-13 edge with 8:15 left in the opening half. The Bears led 43-26.

The Bears would shot 50 percent in the first half (19-38) while the Owls were 11-32 (34.4 percent) in the opening half.

Maine-Presque Isle would get back in the game using a 15-1 spurt to close to within 61-57 with 5:54 left.

Micah Baldez hit a key 3-pointer with 1:11 left giving Coast Guard a 69-63 lead and Noah would knock down a pair of free throws with 23 seconds left to ice the game giving the Bears a 75-68 lead.

Kim Collins led the Owls with 14 points off the bench while Anthony Chaco (12), Maurice Harris (11), Kevin Collins (11) and Deandre Duncombe (10) also finished in double figures for Maine-Presque Isle. Willburn Griffiths and Chaco each had a team-high seven rebounds.

Junior Bryce Schoeder had a career-high eight rebounds for Coast Guard while Micah Baldez also added eight rebounds in the win.

Coast Guard finished 30 of 68 from the field (44.1 percent) while making 6 of 14 from behind the arc while the Owls shot 40.3 percent (27-67) making  6 of 30 from 3-point range.

The Bears held a slight 44-39 edge on the glass.

Coast Guard is back in action on Sunday at 1:00 when they host Salve Regina in a non-conference game.
