NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard Academy sophomore Justin Kane has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
Kane averaged a double-double with 16.5 points and 10 rebounds per game as Coast Guard won both games including an 84-69 win over rival Conn. College to snap a 10-game losing streak against the Camels. Justin had 15 defensive rebounds, three blocks and four steals in the two wins.
He had his second double-double of the season and fifth of his career when he matches career-highs with 20 points and 14 rebounds in the win at Conn. College on Sunday.
Kane is second on the team averaging 15.2 points per game and leads the Bears and is second in the NEWMAC with 9.6 rebounds per game this season.
Coast Guard has won four straight and the Bears are now 4-1 overall for the second time in the last three years.
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday night when they host archrival Merchant Marine at 6:30 p.m.
