Men's Basketball Team Volunteers With Youth Team

The men's basketball team volunteered their Saturday morning recently to coach and scrimmage a local youth team from the Ledyard Youth Basketball Instructional Mixed League.

The youth team, called "the Sharks," is made up of 7-9 year old boys and girls from Ledyard and Gales Ferry and is coached by CDR Gabrielle McGrath, the Commander of the Coast Guard International Ice Patrol located at Fort Trumbull in New London.

The children each picked their favorite player to work with one-on-one on skill drills. The kids and the cadets then broke up into two separate groups and played two games of cadets and kids versus cadets and kids.

The team selflessly spent their liberty time as mentors to the local kids. This event will be one that the children will remember for the rest of their lives.

Senior Devonte Weems, juniors David Anderson and Eli Sponseller, sophomores Kevin Alvarez, Avierre Conner, Mark Krebs, Ryan McNeil and Ricky Rodriguez along with freshmen Adrian Chuquilliangui, Devon Zych, and Jordan Lachowsky from the men's team volunteered.

The Sharks team is made up of Daniel Krupansky, Jaiden Eldridge, Jorden Torgersen, Jaxson McConnell, Sarah Bailey, Ciara May McGrath, Casey Grindstaff, Matt Scarpa, and Ryan O'Connell.
