Adams Named NEFC Offensive Rookie of the Year; Four Named to All-Conference Team

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard Academy junior wide receiver Darius Adams has named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Offensive Rookie of the Year and a first team All-conference selection while three other Bears were named to the All-conference team voted on by the league's eight head coaches.

Adams, playing his first year of football at any level, had a remarkable rookie campaign as he set or tied three school records finishing with single-season school records of 1,054 receiving yards and 13 touchdown receptions while also tying the single-game record of three touchdown receptions twice this season. He was second on the team with 47 receptions.

He led the NEFC and was 17th nationally with his 1,054 yards and 13 touchdowns (11th nationally). Adams was second in the conference with 105.4 yards per game (21st nationally) and 22.4 yards per reception (13th nationally).

A trio of Bears were named to the All-conference second team. Senior center J.D. Dunaway and junior tight end Cody Bain from offense and sophomore linebacker Jake Behne on defense, all three earned All-conference honors for the first time in their careers.

Dunaway, a four-year starter for the Bears, started the last two seasons at center and was part of an offensive line which allowed just 1.1 sacks per game which was 30th nationally. Dunaway and the Bears offensive line also paved the way for the Coast Guard passing attack which averaged 322.2 yards per game, which was the best in the NEFC and 16th nationally.

Bain had an outstanding season leading the Bears with 55 receptions to go with 783 yards and three touchdowns. He had four games this season with over 100 receiving yards. He has 85 receptions for 1,187 yards and five touchdowns in his career.

Behne led was third on the team and led the Bears linebackers with 63 tackles and was second on the team with 46 solo tackles and five tackles for loss and four pass breakups. He also had one interception this season.
