Bateson Named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Coast Guard Academy senior linebacker Parker Bateson has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week following the Bears 42-13 win over Maine Maritime on Saturday in the final game of the season.

Bateson saved his best for the final game of his career as he registered a career-high 16 tackles, 10 of which were solo stops. He recorded four tackles for loss, had a sack, and recovered two fumbles.    

He finished the season with a team-leading 83 tackles, 46 solo and 10 for loss with two sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries as the Bears finished above .500 for the first time since 2007 as Coast Guard was 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the NEFC Bogan Division.
