Joe Witkowski is in his first year as the pitching coach for the
Coast Guard baseball team.
He graduated from Xavier High in Middletown in 2006 where he was a Class LL All-state selection. He hit .439 during his senior season with three homers and 33 RBI’s and 30 runs scored and was named MVP of the Connecticut High School Coaches Association All-Star Game as a senior.
Joe signed as a free agent with the Houston Astros in 2011 after a successful collegiate career at St. John’s University, where he threw out 35.3 percent (49-of-139) of base stealers for his career. He also boasted a career fielding percentage of .993, committing just seven errors in 955 total chances. Joe hit .357 as a sophomore and drove in a career-high 22 runs during his senior season.
He signed with the Washington Nationals as a pitcher and attended spring training before an injury ended his playing career.
