MIT Scores Four In Ninth to Stun Bears

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- MIT rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to erase a 6-3 deficit and beat Coast Guard 7-6 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

MIT improves to 15-8 overall and 10-3 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 8-16 overall and 2-11 in conference play.

Coast Guard struck first with a pair of runs in the third as Kyle Moore scored on a wild pitch before Jeremy Lhotka's RBI single gave the Bears a 2-0 lead.

MIT pulled even in the home half of the fourth before the Bears scored three times in the fourth as Moore drew a bases loaded walk, Jake Behne added an RBI ground out and the Bears added a run on a throwing error to take a 5-2 lead.

The Engineers got one back in the sixth before the Bears added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Will Stephens tripled and scored on RBI single by Luke Thompson
Nate Ralph pitched a solid six innings and allowed just three hits and three runs, two earned while walking five and fanning two.

Ben Webster pitched a hitless seventh and PJ Gravalec followed with a scoreless eighth before Lukas Caskey (1-1) was touched for four runs in the ninth and took the loss.

Stephens had two of the Bears five hits and scored two runs for Coast Guard.

The Bears are back in action on Friday in a NEWMAC game at Clark at 3:30.
