NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Nick Cunningham allowed two runs over six innings and Westfield State had 17 hits in beating Coast Guard 10-3 in a non-conference game.
The Owls win for the sixth straight time to improve to 15-4 overall while Coast Guard saw its three-game win streak snapped dropping to 11-15 on the season.
Cunningham (2-1) allowed six hits walked one and fanned six to get the win.
Sophomore Anthony Crowley tripled, homered and drove in three runs while classmate Colin Dunn was 3 for 4 and drove in two runs to lead the Owls.
Sophomore Jared Ferrari added three hits for Westfield State while junior John Lippincott had two hits, including a double and drove in a run in the win.
Lippincott had an RBI double in the first before Crowley's two-run homer in the second gave the Owls a 3-0 lead.
Senior Nate Barnes had a sacrifice fly in the fifth before an RBI single by freshman Jake Gibb gave Westfield State a 5-1 lead.
The Owls added two more in the sixth on a two-run single by Dunn to take a 7-1 lead.
Coast Guard got a run in the sixth as sophomore Will Stephens led off with a triple and scored on an RBI single by senior Timbo Duncan.
Crowley had an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball in the seventh extending the lead to 10-2.
Junior Tucker Williams had an RBI single in the eighth for Coast Guard to close the scoring.
Behne had two hits for Coast Guard.
Sophomore Robert Marant (0-1) allowed six earned runs in five innings and took the loss for Coast Guard. Sophomore Bryan Delp threw a pair of scoreless innings, in his first appearance of the season, to close out the game for the Bears.
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday at Wheaton in a NEWMAC game at 3:30.
