FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior Justin Rebholz came on in relief and got out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh with a strikeout and threw 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief to pick up the save as Coast Guard won its fourth straight holding off Anna Maria 8-5 at the Gene Cusic Classic.
Sophomore Dan Finn (1-0) pitched six solid inning s and allowed just five singles, three runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out seven to get the win.
The Bears led 6-3 before Anna Maria scored a pair of runs cutting the deficit to 6-5 in the seventh before Rebholz came on with two outs and ended the threat with a strikeout.
Coast Guard would get two insurances runs in the bottom of the seventh as senior Timbo Duncan led off with a double before classmate Brendan McNeil's RBI single accounted for the first run. Junior Alex Murdoch drove in McNeil with an RBI ground out pushing the lead to 8-5.
Anna Maria scored twice in the top of the first before the Bears erupted for four in the home half as Duncan's bases loaded triple gave Coast Guard a 3-2 lead before sophomore Jeremy Lhotka's sacrifice fly made it 4-2.
The Bears added two more in the second on an RBI double by sophomore Luke Thompson before junior Zach Serna's RBI single made it 6-2.
The AMCATS would get a single run in the third before Finn threw three scoreless innings.
Duncan had a double, triple and three RBI's while Thompson also had a pair of hits for the Bears.
Coast Guard, which evens its record at 4-4 on the season, is back in action on Friday when the Bears take on Swarthmore in a doubleheader at 9:00.
