TOP MOMENT #7 – Men’s 4x400 Qualifies for NCAA Championship

As we approach the holiday season and the New Year, we will take a look back at the Top Ten moments in Coast Guard Academy Athletics during the 2017 year.

We have compiled a list and will unveil one a day for the next 10 weekdays and culminating with the announcement of the top moment on December 29th.

TOP MOMENT #7 – Men's 4x400 Qualifies for NCAA Championship

The men's indoor track 4x400 relay team of sophomore Nicholas Frystack, Jake Pawlina and junior Luke Rehfuss and Raeford Penny qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship.

The quartet qualified as the 12th and final team with a time of 3:19.48.

The Bears finished in second place with a time of 3:19.48 at the Tufts Last Chance Meet topping their flat track best of 3:20.79. The time moved them ahead of NEWMAC foe, WPI, who was ahead of them in the National Rankings.

Splits and order for the relay were Frystack (48.9), Pawlina (50.3), Rehfuss (50.2) and Penny (49.6) at Tufts.

The team placed 12th at the NCAA Championship with a time of 3:22.81.
