Softball - Bears Give Up Eight Unearned Runs in Loss
Amanda Frederick doubled, homered and scored both runs in the loss.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/9/08)--Nicole Nordella’s three-run home run highlighted a five-run fourth inning and Trinity scored eight unearned runs in the game to beat Coast Guard 11-2 in a game stopped after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
Nordella had four RBI’s on the day as she added an RBI ground out in the first when the Bantams took a 2-0 lead with Stacy Hatchcox also delivering an RBI single in the first inning.
Trinity led 3-1 after three before the five-run outburst, all the runs were scored with two outs. Laura Cutler had a two-run single before Nordella’s three-run shot.
Hatchcox and Ariana Mullin each had two hits for the Bantams. Jessica Tait scored three runs for Trinity.
Kristen Anderson (3-1) went the distance and allowed six hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out three to get the win.
Crystal Lee Coonan (9-12) went the distance for Coast Guard and allowed seven hits, but just three earned runs while walking four and striking out a batter.
Amanda Frederick led Coast Guard with a double and a solo homer while scoring both runs. She homered in the third and doubled and scored on a double by Courtney Wolf in the fifth.
