 Pete Schofield worked eight solid innings to record his first win of the season. WORCESTER, MASS.--(4/6/08)--Pete Schofield picked up his first win of the season and gave Coast Guard its first conference win of the season as he struck out a career-high seven in game two as the Bears salvaged a split of a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with a 4-2 win over Clark after the Cougars won the opener 17-0. The games were played at Clark because the Coast Guard field was unplayable, Coast Guard served as the home team in both games.
Schofield (1-3) went eight innings and scattered eight hits, allowing two runs while walking two and striking out a career-high seven before Kevin Thomas worked the ninth, allowing just a walk, to pick up his first collegiate save.
Kevin Higgins' two-run double in the first gave Coast Guard a 2-0 lead before Ken Franklin's RBI single in the third increased the lead to 3-0.
Clark (8-13, 2-3) scored in the top of the fourth, but Coast Guard answered with a run in the home half as Brian Yurovich led off with a double, went to third on a single by Keith Laird and scored on a wild pitch for a 4-1 lead.
In the opener, the Cougars jumped out on top early with a six-run second inning. They added two more runs in the top of the third on a two-run single from Silva and a pair of RBI hits, a wild pitch and an error gave Clark a 12-0 lead in the fourth.
Junior Greg Long pitched six innings of three-hit ball to notch his first win of the season. He had six strikeouts and no walks. Freshman Robert Lopez also pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Adam Reckley started and took the loss for Coast Guard (6-13, 1-6).
