Kevin Higgins had three hits in the second game for the Bears.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/29/08)--Brian Scanlon hit a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning of game two to break a 6-6 tie leading Babson to a doubleheader sweep of Coast Guard in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. Babson won the opener 17-7 and the nightcap 9-6.

Scanlon was 4 for 9 with seven RBI’s in the doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, Babson jumped all over Coast Guard starter Will Becker for six runs in the first inning, as the Beavers took advantage of three straight walks to start the game and three errors in the first inning. Scanlon had a two-run single in the first while Corey Highfield and Steve Tahmoush added RBI singles and Jake Bartlett delivered a sacrifice fly.

Bartlett added a two-run single in both the third and sixth innings to finish with two hits and five RBI’s in the opener while Scanlon had a two-run double in the third as Babson took an 11-4 lead. Tahmoush and Dave Ahern also had two hits in the opener for the Beavers.

Andrew Aizenstadt (3-0) worked six innings allowing nine hits and seven runs, three earned while walking one and striking out three to pick up the win.

Becker (1-3) worked four innings and was charged with 13 runs, 10 earned and took the loss for Coast Guard.

Keith Laird was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Ryan Milligan had a double, triple and three RBI’s in game one for Coast Guard.

In game two, Coast Guard scored two unearned runs in the first before Babson scored six runs, all with two outs, in the second inning. Tahmoush and Matt Delaney had RBI singles to tie the game before Ahern followed with a two-run single and Bryan Evans followed with a two-run double for a 6-2 lead.

Coast Guard (4-11, 0-4) got one run in the third on an RBI single by Brian Lisko and then the Bears tied the game with three more in the fifth as Kevin Higgins and Lisko each had RBI singles.

John Hudspeth (2-0) picked up the win in relief of Jeff Wojnar. Hudspeth allowed just two hits over 3 1/3 innings of work.

Pete Schofield (0-3) went seven innings and allowed 11 hits and nine runs, all earned, for Coast Guard, to take the loss.

Delaney had three hits in game two while Tahmoush, Evans and Scanlon each had two hits for Babson (10-6, 3-1).

Lisko and Higgins each had three hits in game two for Coast Guard while Adam Reckley and Ken Franklin also added two hits each.
