NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/27/08)--Graham Douds gave Wesleyan the lead with a grand slam in the seventh and he added a three-run home run in the ninth as he went 3 for 5 with eight RBI’s leading the Cardinals to a 12-7 come-from-behind win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.
Coast Guard (4-9) led 6-3 going into the seventh when the Cardinals scored five unearned runs as the Bears committed two errors in the inning. Chris Simpson drew a two-out bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to 6-4 before Douds hit the grand slam, a line drive homer to left center field, giving the Cardinals an 8-6 lead.
Wesleyan led 9-7 in the ninth when following a pair of walks, Douds hit a three-run shot, another line drive to the exact same spot in left center field.
Coast Guard took an early 3-0 lead in the first before Wesleyan tied the game with three runs in the fourth.
The Bears regained the lead in the fifth as Brian Lisko scored on a wild pitch and Kevin Higgins delivered a sacrifice fly for a 5-3 lead. Coast Guard added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Steve Lewis.
Dusty Mones (2-1) picked up the win in relief. He was one of eight Wesleyan pitchers in the game. He worked 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Adam Reckley (1-2) took the loss for Coast Guard. He worked 6 2/3 innings and allowed 7 hits, and eight runs, just three earned while walking two and striking out two.
Garrett Lamborn also had two hits for Wesleyan.
Lewis, Reckley and Ken Franklin each had two hits for Coast Guard, which has dropped five straight.
