NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/22/08)--Jenna Harvey threw a one-hitter and struck out 16 in the opener and came on in relief and worked two hitless innings with five strikeouts in game two leading No. 23 Wellesley to a sweep of Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with a 7-0 win in the opener and a thrilling 2-1 nine inning win in the nightcap.

Harvey dominated the Bears lineup all afternoon. She struck out the first nine batters she faced and allowed just a single to Leanna Minton to lead off the fourth inning of game one. Harvey faced the minimum 21 batters in the opener as Minton was thrown out stealing.

Kara Wong’s sacrifice fly in the third gave the Blue a 1-0 lead and Shawn McCreadie’s two-run homer in the sixth pushed the lead to 3-0 before Wellesley tacked on four more runs in the seventh.

Crystal Lee Coonan allowed seven earned runs and 11 hits to take the loss for Coast Guard (4-10, 0-2).

In game two, Coast Guard took a 1-0 in the first on and RBI single by Jeannie Crump scoring Minton, who led off the game with a single.

Wellesley (3-0-1, 2-0) tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth as Amanda Tai doubled and later scored on a passed ball.

Meghan Sullivan’s RBI single in the ninth scored pinch runner Megan Townsend, who started the inning on second base as part of the international tiebreaker.

Kristie Gola started for Wellesley and worked seven innings allowing six hits an earned run while walking one and striking out one before Harvey (2-0) came on and got the win.

Coonan (4-6) was great in game two as she did not allow an earned run in nine innings of work while scattering five hits, walking two and striking out seven for Coast Guard, but she was the tough luck loser.

Jeannie Crump had two hits for Coast Guard in the second game.
