Crystal Lee Coonan was the winning pitcher in both games as the Bears ran their win streak to four straight.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/21/08)--Carin Sweeney was 4 for 4 with two doubles and four RBI’s while Erin Cullen had a hit and three RBI’s as Coast Guard won the second game of a doubleheader 12-6 over Castleton State to complete a sweep and extend its win streak to four after the Bears won the opener 9-2.

In the opener, Annette Boston and Amanda Frederick each had two hits and drove in a run in the sixth inning as Coast Guard scored six times on eight hits in the inning to blow the game open. Jeannie Crump had a two-run double while Courtney Wolf added an RBI single in the inning.

Boston, Frederick and Wolf each had three hits in the opener as the Bears totaled 15 hits in game one.

Crystal Lee Coonan scattered five hits, all singles, and allowed two earned runs while striking out three to earn the win.

Rachel Hunt had three of the five hits to lead the Spartans in game one.

In game two, Castleton State scored four runs in the top of the first chasing Coast Guard starter Katie Murray.

The Bears got three in the bottom of the first and three more in the third as they tied the game and then took the lead on back-to-back RBI doubles by Sweeney and Cullen in the third.

Coast Guard (4-8) scored four more times in the fourth with Sweeney highlighting the inning with a two-run double as the Bears took a 10-4 lead.

Frederick, Crump and Colleen Denny each added two hits in the second game for Coast Guard.

Coonan came on in relief in the first inning and scattered seven hits the rest of the way, allowing two earned runs while striking out two to pickup her fourth straight win.

Whittemore was 3 for e with a home run for Castleton State (0-2) in a game two, while she also took the loss on the mound, going the distance and allowing 13 hits and five earned runs.
