FORT MYERS, FLA.—(3/14/08)—Nichols College scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to break an 8-8 tie and the Bison held on for 10-9 over Coast Guard at the Gene Cusic Classic, snapping the Bears three-game winning streak

Coast Guard (3-4) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings before Nichols scored six times in the third.

Junior Bill Birch led the Bears with four hits to go with two RBI’s while senior Adam Reckley had three hits and an RBI as Coast Guard totaled 14 hits.

Senior Kevin Higgins and junior Steve Lewis each had a two hits including a double. Lewis drove in two runs while Lewis knocked in a run.

Junior Pete Schofield started for Coast Guard and worked five innings, but did not factor in the decision. Senior Kevin Thomas pitched four solid innings of relief allowing two run and two hits, while walking three and striking out three, but took the loss.
