All-America Bobby Brown led the Bears to a third straight NEWMAC Championship.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(3/2/08)--Senior Bobby Brown had quite a weekend. The All-American won two individual events, qualified automatically for the NCAA Division III Championships and set both conference records and pool records in three events as Coast Guard won seven events, placed second seven events and had 110 lifetime best swims or dives and won its third straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship.

Brown, a five-time All-America, won the 200 free (1:39.34), 1650 free (15:41.81), where his 1,000 split was a NEWMAC and school record as well, (9:30.34). He also placed second in the 500 freestyle (4:38.37). He is ranked third in the 200, 1650 and the 500 heading to the NCAA's on Mar. 20-22 at Miami University in Ohio. His time of 4:32.15 in the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle was both a NEWMAC and pool record.

Coast Guard Academy entered Sunday's final round of competition with a healthy lead, and that lead would only grow larger, as the Bears pulled away from the pack finishing with a staggering 991 points, outdistancing runner-up MIT (868) and third-place finisher Springfield College (741).

Freshman Timmy Berry had three NCAA “B” times as he won the 200 backstroke and placed second in the 200 IM (1:54.76) and the 100 backstroke (52.01) which broke the school record held by Bob Hueller, and 200 backstroke. He will be 14th going into NCAA Championships.

Doug Fallon set NEWMAC records in both the 200 and 400 IM events, winning both events. He won the 200 IM in 1:54.67 and the 400 IM in 4:04.13 setting a pair of records. Fallon had three NCAA “B” times. He will be seeded 8th in the 400 IM at the NCAA Championships.

Jim Okorn had two NCAA “B” times in both the 50 free (20.99) and 100 free (46.34).

Jack Shadwick had one NCAA “B” time in the 200 free (1:41.61).

Also for the Bears, Nick Forni won the 100 butterfly (51.31) and the 400 medley relay team of Berry, Sauve, Fallon and Okorn set the school-record with a time of 3:25.37 to win the event.

The 200 free relay team of Brown, Okorn Shadwick and Dale Cressman set a school-record with a time of 1:23.61.

The 200 medley relay team of Berry, Jack Sauve, Forni and Okorn set the school-record with a time of 1:33.83 and place second.

The 800 free relay using four separate individual swims (called an aggregate time) is going into the NCAA meet in sixth place with a time of 6:48.90. That team consists of Brown, Shadwick, Okorn and Cressman.

Dan Cloonan also qualified for the NCAA Championships on the 1-meter board for the first time in his career.

Also placing second for the Bears to also earn All-conference honors were: Sauve in the 100 breaststroke (57.82), Fallon in the 200 butterfly (1:54.53) and the 800 freestyle relay team of Shadwick, Fallon, Dale Cressman and Brown (6:58.81).
