Kim Shadwick won the 200 freestyle and set three school-records at the NEWMAC Championships.
WELLESLEY, MASS.--(2/24/08)--Freshman Kim Shadwick broke three school records and won the 200 freestyle event as the Bears broke five school records and placed fifth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.

Shadwick won the 200 freestyle in school-record time of 1:54.93 which is also an NCAA "B" time which could earn her a spot at the NCAA Division III Championships.

She placed second in the 1,650 freestyle with a school record time of 17:44.01 while also breaking her own school record and placing third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:11.75, breaking her own record from two weeks ago of 5:12.78.

Senior Joan Hunter placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.74. She had won the event in 2007. Hunter also placed third for the Bears in both the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.23 which is also an NCAA "B" time and in the 200 freestyle (1:57.93). She had a time of 23.97 in the 50 free time trial which gets her an invite to the NCAA Division III Championships.

The 800 free relay of Shadwick, Sarah Jane Otey, Tara Schendorf and Hunter were 3rd and set a new school record with a time of 8:02.28 while the 400 free relay (Otey, Shadwick, Emily Zalewski and Hunter) was 4th with a school record time of 3:39.63.

Also for the Bears, Krystyna Vihonski was 4th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:30.96 and for the first time three different divers (Alyse Marquinez, Ariana Pourmonir, and Marie Canavan) scored at the championships.

Springfield won the NEWMAC Championship with 707.5 points while the fifth place Bears had 343 points.
