Men's Basketball - Bears Run Win Steak to Six with Senior Night Win

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/21/08)--Sophomore Eric Hudson had a season-high 13 points while senior Grant Johnson led all scorers with 16 points as Coast Guard won its sixth straight beating Johnson & Wales 86-60 in a non-conference game on Senior Night.
Johnson & Wales (15-10) led 12-11 with 13:49 left in the first half when the Bears took control of the game with a 16-4 run started on back-to-back 3-pointers by senior Al Sowers and sophomore Stefan Lewis to take a 27-16 lead with 9:37 left in the first half. Coast Guard led 45-30 at halftime.
Coast Guard (17-6) was never challenged in the second half as the Bears led by as many as 29 and the Wildcats never got as close as the 15 points which they trailed by at the half.
Sowers added 13 points and a game-high five assists while senior Steve Blum tied a season-high with 11 points. Senior Jeff Prebeck had a game-high nine rebounds to go with his seven points.
Senior Tirone McCray led Johnson & Wales with 15 points while senior Japhet Kerr added 12 points and senior Greg Samuels, who had a team-high eight rebounds and sophomore Richard DiLascio each added 11 points for the Wildcats.
Coast Guard shot 49.2 percent from the field (30-61) and 45 percent from 3-point range (9-20) while Johnson & Wales shot 36.8 percent from the floor (21-57) and 23.5 percent from 3-point range (4-17). The Bears outrebounded Johnson & Wales 43-36.
The senior class won the 61st game of its career (61-40) becoming just the sixth class to win over 60 games in four seasons.
