Women's Basketball - Moyer Scores 27 as Bears Remain in First Place

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/13/08)--Senior Natalie Moyer led all scorers with 27 points to go with a career-high eight steals as Coast Guard won its fourth straight and remained in first place in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 72-54 win over Clark.
Freshman Jennifer Tamminen keyed an 11-2 spurt with six points as Coast Guard turned an 18-17 deficit with 8:38 left in the first half into a 28-20 lead with 6:09 left. The Bears led 35-26 at halftime with Moyer leading all scorers with 13 first half points while Tamminen had 10 points in the first 20 minutes.
Coast Guard led 43-33 with 15:56 to go when the Bears used a 10-2 run to put the game away, taking a 53-35 with 10:42 left.
Sophomore Melissa Martinelli finished with 13 points and seven rebounds while junior Chanel Lee had a team-high eight rebounds for the Bears, who tied a season-high with 11 three-point baskets, five by Moyer on nine attempts.
Junior Sarah Roderigue led the Cougars (8-13, 4-6) with 19 points while sophomore Blaize Denfield led Clark with eight rebounds.
Coast Guard (18-3, 9-1), which has won 11 of its last 12 games, remains tied for first with Wheaton in the NEWMAC with three games left. The Bears hold the tiebreaker with the Lyons based on a head-to-head win.
