 DeCarol Davis was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team for the second straight season. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/7/08)--Coast Guard senior guard DeCarol Davis has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I college division women’s basketball first team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Davis, who has started 15 games this season, is ranked first in the senior class of 226 cadets as she carries a 3.96 GPA in Electrical Engineering. She is averaging 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for Coast Guard which has already tied the single-season record for wins with 16 as the team is 16-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
Davis, who was the Academy’s first ever Truman Scholar (2007), was a 2007 Rhodes Scholar finalist and was the 2007 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Female Sports Scholar of the Year. She is on the Commandant of Cadet’s List for Military Excellence, the Dean’s List and served as Class President as a freshman and sophomore.
While at the Academy, she was also named a member of the 2006 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar women’s basketball and softball first team, Davis has won the Commandant’s Undergraduate Award, established a recycling program at the Academy as well as written and directed a children’s play performed for Engineering Outreach program.
Davis, who earns first team District I honors for the second straight season, is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Alpha Lambda Delta.
District I consists of New England, New York, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.
Davis along with the four other District I first team members will now be placed on the national CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. There are eight districts total which means 40 student athletes will be placed on the national ballot.
