NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/12/07)--Junior Ashley McFetridge had 25 points while senior Stephanie Smith added 24 points as Eastern Connecticut remained unbeaten by beating Coast Guard 79-62 in a non-conference game, the final game of the semester for both teams.
The Warriors used an 11-2 run in the first half turning a 7-5 deficit into a 16-9 lead with 11:51 left. Eastern Connecticut led 37-28 at halftime as the Warriors made 18 of 21 from the foul line in the first 20 minutes and shot 9 for 19 from the field.
Eastern Connecticut (10-0), which won its 10th straight this season, had its biggest lead of the game 49-31 with 17:20 left.
Coast Guard trailed 59-44 with 12:07 left before outscoring the Warriors 13-2 to pull to within 61-57 with 8:16 left as senior Natalie Moyer hit back-to-back three-pointers.
The Warriors, who are a perfect 8-0 all-time against the Bears, would put the game away as Coast Guard turned the ball over on five straight possessions and Eastern Connecticut scored seven straight points for a 68-57 lead with 4:20 left.
Eastern Connecticut, which shot 48.9 percent from the floor (23-47) won the game at the foul line as they converted 29 of 35 from the stripe while Coast Guard was seven for nine.
Moyer led Coast Guard with 21 points including the 200th three-pointer of her career, she finished the night with 201 career treys. Sophomore Melissa Martinelli had 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds for Coast Guard, which ends the semester with a school-record best 7-2 start despite having its three-game win streak snapped.
Coast Guard was just seven of 34 (20.6 percent) from three-point range.
