NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(12/8/07)--Sophomore Melissa Martinelli had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the second half after playing just seven minutes in the first half with foul trouble and the Bears used a 14-1 run in the second half as Coast Guard improved its school record best start to 7-1 with a 67-58 win over Salve Regina in a non-conference game.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first two minutes before Salve Regina (4-3), which was an NCAA Tournament team last season, used a 14-4 run to take its first lead of the game 16-14 with 11:37 left in the first half.

The Seahawks led by as many as eight in the first half, 30-22 and they led 30-24 at halftime.

Salve Regina senior Kristen Stone opened the scoring in the second half before the Bears used a 15-2 run to take a 39-34 lead with 14:19 left in the game. Senior Corinne McCormack, who hit back-to-back three-pointers in that stretch, and Martinelli accounted for all 15 points in the run.

Salve regained the lead with seven straight for a 41-39 lead with 11:37 left before the Bears used a 14-1, taking a 53-42 lead with 5:56 left in the game.

Martinelli finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Moyer had 18 points while McCormack had 13 points and eight rebounds. Senior DeCarol Davis was also in double figures for the Bears as she finished with 11 points.

Stone and senior Katie Horan each had 15 points to lead Salve Regina, junior Allegra Lovoy had 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists while senior Allison Moen was also in double figures with 10 points.
