NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/6/07)--Senior Natalie Moyer led all scorers with 21 points while sophomore Melissa Martinelli had 18 points and a season-high 17 rebounds as Coast Guard beat Johnson & Wales 68-59 to improve to 6-1 on the season, the best start in school history.

Senior Corinne McCormack had a double-double for the Bears with 10 points and 14 rebounds while freshman Jennifer Tamminen had 16 points and nine rebounds for Coast Guard (6-1).

Coast Guard used a an 11-2 run in the first half to take its largest lead of the half, 28-16 with 7:31 left before Johnson & Wales closed the gap to five by scoring the final five points of the half making the score 34-29.

The Bears scored the first five points of the second half and Johnson & Wales would get as close as 52-49 on a basket by Erica Parker with 5:59 left before Martinelli and Moyer each hit a shot to push the lead to 56-49 with 4:21 left.

Sophomore Alexia Ramirez led the Wildcats with 19 points and 16 rebounds while junior Alyse Ragaglia also had 19 points in the loss.

Coast Guard started the 1997-’98 season with a 5-1 record before losing its seventh game of the season.
