 Al Sowers had a season-high 26 points leading the Bears to their sixth straight win. LEICESTER, MASS.--(12/4/07)--Senior Al Sowers had a season-high 26 points, as he connected on six of 10 from three-point range, while junior Craig Johnson added 22 points and 13 rebounds as Coast Guard remained unbeaten and ran its win streak to six straight with a 79-69 win over Becker in non-conference game.
Johnson’s layup with 4:46 left capped a 10-2 spurt which gave Coast Guard its largest lead of the game at 73-58. The Bears scored six points in a 12 second span in that run.
The Hawks (3-4) made a run, outscoring Coast Guard 9-1 making the score 74-67, but could get no closer.
Coast Guard (6-0) started out the second half outscoring the Hawks 12-4 over the first five minutes with Craig Johnson scoring seven of the Bears points in that run giving Coast Guard a 47-36 lead with 14:56 left.
Becker cut the lead to five on five different occasions but Jeff Prebeck’s jumper with 6:15 left put the Bears cushion back to 11 at 67-56.
In a back-and-forth first half, Coast Guard led by as many a six at 23-17 following an Al Sowers three-pointer with 7:52 left in the first half. Becker had a one-point lead on three different occasions, the last being 26-25 with four minutes left in the half after a three-pointer by Shawn Fuller.
Sowers led the Bears with 13 first half points while Craig Johnson had 10 points in the first half for Coast Guard.
Prebeck finished with 17 points and moved into third place on Coast Guard’s all-time scoring list as he finished the night with 1,326 points. He passed both Bob Mobley (’79) and Larry Zacher (’89), who each had 1,325 career points. |
