Women's Swimming - Shawick Sets Another Record, Bears Win First Dual Meet
Kim Shadwick broke her own school record in the 100 backstroke.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/17/07)--Freshman Kim Shawick broke her own school record in the 100 meter backstroke (1:01.44) as the Bears beat WPI 131-98 for their first dual meet win of the season.
Shadwick has had a sensational start to her collegiate career breaking her second school record in the early part of the season.
The old record in the 100 backstroke was set by Morgan Armstrong (1:03.77) in 2002 and Shadwick broke that earlier this season when she posted a time of 1:03.11 in the season opener.
Also this season, Shadwick has set a school record in the 500 freestyle (5:15.67) besting the mark of 5:18.71 set by Helen Kim in 2004.
Shadwick teamed with Krystyna Vihonski, Trayce Womack and Joan Hunter to win the 400 medley relay (4:15.25)as Shadwick's 100 backstroke leg was the school record with a time of 1:01.44. She also won the 100 backstroke later with a time of 1:03.06.
Also for the Bears, Hunter won the 50 freestyle (25.28), Haynsworth won the 200 IM (2:25.80) and Sarah Jane Otey won the 1,000 freestyle (11:40.85).
