THOUSAND OAKS, CA.--(11/17/07)--Melissa Martinelli's baseline jumper with 34 seconds left tied the game and Coast Guard went on to beat California Lutheran 51-46 in overtime as the Bears improved to 2-0 on the season.
Martinelli, who had 20 points in the Bears' season opening win on Friday night, scored the final five points in regulation as Coast Guard overcame a five-point deficit with just over four minutes to play. She again led the Bears with 20 points a game-high 15 rebounds.
Despite converting just 11-21 free throws overall, the Bears connected on five of its six overtime free throws to seal the game.
Both teams struggled offensively missing 100 shots, committing 55 turnovers and shot just 50% from the charity stripe (24-48) combined. Coast Guard made just two of 29 from three-point range and committed 31 turnovers, but remained unbeaten.
Senior Corinne McCormack had 10 points and 14 rebounds while freshman Jennifer Tamminen added 10 points and 10 rebounds as three Bears posted double-doubles. |
