 Junior linebacker Brian Yurovich was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Week as he and the Bears held Curry to 10 points in the NEFC Championship Game. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/12/07)--Coast Guard Academy junior linebacker Brian Yurovich has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bears 10-7 loss to Curry in the NEFC Championship Game.
Yurovich, a second-team All-Bogan Division selection this season, had a huge game as he totaled 11 tackles, eight solo, two for loss, two sacks, an interception and a forced fumble as the Coast Guard defense held Curry, which was averaging a league-best 41.5 points per game, to just 10 points.
His interception led to Coast Guard's only touchdown of the game as the Bears led 7-0 in the first quarter.
Coast Guard which won its final seven regular season games won its second straight NEFC Bogan Division championship with perfect 7-0 record for the second straight season. The Bears finished the season 8-2 after the loss to Curry.
The Bears, who have won 16 of their last 17 regular season games, lost to five-time defending conference champion Curry in the NEFC Championship Game in each of the last two seasons.
