NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/7/07)--Senior Corinne McCormack had 13 kills, nine digs and five aces in the final home match of her brillant career leading second-seeded Coast Guard to a 3-0 (30-19, 31-29, 30-14) win over seventh-seeded Western Connecticut in the first round of the ECAC Division III New England tournament.

The Bears (22-6) improve to 7-0 all time in the first round of the ECAC Tournament. Coast Guard won the ECAC Tournament in 2002 and 2005 and finished second in 1994 and 2004.

In the first game, Coast Guard scored nine straight turning a 13-11 deficit into a 20-13 lead and the Bears later scored five on the final six points for the 30-19 win.

Western Connecticut (19-13) appeared to be on its way to tying the match at one game apiece in game two as the Colonials had a pair of game points, leading 29-27, but Coast Guard scored four straight to win the game 31-29. Western Connecticut used an 8-1 run early to take a 13-9 lead and the Colonials never trailed until Coast Guard took a 30-29 lead.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 15-6 lead in game three and wrapped up the match with a 30-14 win.

Junior Nicole Gurr had 11 kills and 10 digs for the Bears, sophomore Carin Sweeney added seven kills while senior Anne Staley had 35 assists for Coast Guard.

Freshman Danielle Spangler led Western Connecticut with 11 kills while senior Krystal Wilson led the team with 17 digs. Freshman Samantha Hathaway added nine digs for the Colonials.

Coast Guard will take on third-seeded Colby Sawyer at top seeded Brandeis at 1 p.m. in the semifinals on Saturday. The championship match will be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
