Junior Meaghan Gies was named to the Academic All-conference team.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/7/07)--Coast Guard Academy placed three student athletes on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-conference teams released on Wednesday.

Senior Patrick Wright, a Marine and Environmental Science major, was named to the men’s soccer All-Academic team, junior Meaghan Gies, a Marine and Environmental Science major, was named to the women’s soccer team while sophomore Carin Sweeney, a Civil Engineering major, earned a spot on the volleyball Academic All-conference team.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2007 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Coast Guard had eight student athletes named to the men’s and women’s cross country NEWMAC Academic All-conference teams last week.

The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
