Volleyball - McCormack, Gurr Named First Team All-Conference
Junior Nicole Gurr earned first team All-conference honors for the third straight season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/6/07)--Coast Guard Academy senior Corinne McCormack and junior Nicole Gurr were named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-conference first team in voting by the league’s 10 head coaches.
McCormack, who is second all-time at the Academy with 1,503 kills and is second in the NEWMAC this season with 4.05 kills per game this year. She earns All-conference honors for the fourth straight season, three times a first team member. She was a first team selection in 2004 and 2005 and second team selection last season. McCormack was also the 2004 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2004.
Gurr, who leads the NEWMAC with 4.94 kills per game, was named to the first team for the third straight season. Gurr was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2005.
Coast Guard (21-6) earned its sixth straight trip to postseason play this year as the second-seeded Bears will host seventh-seeded Western Connecticut in the first round of the ECAC Division III New England tournament on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bears won the ECAC Championship in 2002 and 2005 before advancing to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament last season.
