Men's Soccer - Four Named All-NEWMAC; Parsons Honored
Senior Martin Villa, a first team All-conference selection, was one of four Bears named to the team.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/6/07)--Coast Guard had four players earn New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-conference honors and head coach Chris Parsons was named the Coach of the Year in voting by the leagues seven head coaches.
Senior defender Martin Villa and junior midfielder David O’Brien were named to the first team while junior forward Peter Deneen and junior defender James Toohey were named to the second team. It was the first time any of the four were named to the All-conference team.
Villa (1 goal/2 assists) and Toohey (1 goal) were key members of the Coast Guard defense which allowed just 0.91 goals per game, just 15 goals in 16 games.
O’Brien was the Bears top player in the midfield. He was third on the team with five goals and four assists.
Deneen led Coast Guard with nine goals to go with his four assists.
Parsons, who is leading the Bears to postseason play for the fourth time in five years, earned NEWMAC Coach of the Year honors for the first time.
Fifth-seeded Coast Guard (9-6-1) will play at fourth-seeded Worcester State on Wednesday night in the first round of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.
