WORCESTER, MASS.--(10/20/07)--Coast Guard scored 40 unanswered points, including 23 in the third quarter, turning a 10-6 deficit into a 46-10 New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division win over host Worcester State, spoiling the Lancers Homecoming festivities.

Coast Guard, the defending NEFC Bogan Division champions, won its fifth straight this season and 12 straight division game dating back to last season, to improve to 6-1 overall and a remain alone atop the division with a perfect 5-0 record.

The NEFC Bogan Division championship will be on the line next week as Coast Guard (5-0) will host Maine Maritime (4-1 in division play). The Bears can win their second consecutive division championship with a win while Maine Maritime can take over first place and go for the clincher the following week vs. Fitchburg State.

Junior quarterback Niles Pierson, making his first start of the season, had a huge day for Coast Guard as he accounted for three touchdowns gaining 98 yards on 10 caries and throwing for 196 yards and a pair of TD tosses. Senior running back Lance Lynch was also impressive on the ground as he rushed for 97 yards.

Worcester State (4-4, 3-2) opened the scoring on their first drive as they marched on a nine play, 75 yard drive capped off by a 3-yard touchdown pass from Pat Good to tight end Scott Pollard .

After the two teams traded punts, Coast Guard answered back with an 11 play, 68-yard touchdown drive culminating in a 14-yard TD pass from quarterback Niles Pierson to Erik Wyrick. A muffed snap foiled the extra point to set the score at, 7-6.

Chris Nosek closed out the Lancers scoring on the night at he drilled a 23-yard field goal to extend the Lancer lead to, 10-6. Coast Guard place-kicker David Lieberman matched Nosek on the next drive hitting a 32-yarder to close the gap to, 10-9, which would be the score at the half.

The rains came at halftime but it didn’t seem to affect the Bears as they put 37 second half points up on the board including 23 in the 3rd quarter alone.

Big plays ruled as after senior quarterback Christian George (gave Coast Guard the lead for good on an 11-yard touchdown scamper, the Bears scored on a pair of plays over 35 yards. First, Pierson went for a 55-yard touchdown run and then defensive back Steve Arguelles (Yuma, AZ) picked off a Lancer pass and took it all the way back for a 63-yard touchdown return. Lieberman hit his second field goal of the night to give Coast Guard a, 32-10, lead after three quarters of action.

In the fourth quarter, Wyrick snagged his second touchdown reception of the night off a pass from Pierson and reserve running back Scott Rupnow got into the action late with a 1-yard touchdown plunge for the, 46-10, final score.

Coast Guard posted 487 yards of total offense, 265 rushing, on the night to the Lancers 302. Coast Guard also posted an impressive 28 first downs in the contest.

Wyrick, along with his two touchdown catches, totaled 99 yards on five catches to lead the Coast Guard receivers.

Worcester State running back Aaron McCraine garnered 61 yards on the ground for Worcester State on the night.
