Men's - Villa Penalty Kick Leads Bears Past ECSU
Senior Martin Villa converted a penalty kick, his first goal of the season, as the Bears beat Eastern Conn. 1-0.
WILLIMANTIC, CONN.--(10/16/07)--Senior Martin Villa's penalty kick in the 38th minute, his first goal of the season, was the only goal of the game as Coast Guard beat Eastern Connecticut 1-0 in a non-conference game. It is the fourth straight year that Coast Guard has shutout Eastern Connecticut.
Junior Nate Wojcik was taken down from behind by two Eastern Connecticut players with 7:10 left in the first half giving the Bears the penalty kick opportunity.
Sophomore Tim Olah made four saves to record his first shutout of the season. Eastern Connecticut (7-6-2) outshot Coast Guard 9-6. Jay Barney made two saves for the Warriors.
This was the 13th staight game between the two teams that was decided by one goal. Coast Guard (7-4-1) is 10-2-1 in those 13 games.
