Senior Christian George accounted for 332 total yards to earn NEFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/8/07)--Coast Guard Academy senior quarterback Christian George was named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Offensive Player of the Week as he accounted for 332 of the Bears NEFC and school record 684 yards of total offense in Coast Guard’s 58-34 win over Fitchburg State on Saturday.
George, the NEFC Bogan Division Offensive Player of the Year last season, carried just nine times for 113 yards and a touchdown while completing 15 of 23 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
The Coast Guard offense, which was held to just three points, 33 yards passing and 166 total yards a week ago, had 400 yards passing on Saturday between George and junior quarterback Niles Pierson.
George now has 995 career rushing yards in just two seasons after making the move to quarterback from wide receiver before his junior season.
Coast Guard (4-1, 3-0), which has won three straight this season and 10 straight NEFC Bogan Division games, will host Bridgewater State (4-1, 3-0) on Saturday with first place in the division on the line. Coast Guard beat Bridgewater 21-17 during the regular season last year as George scored the game winning touchdown, a two-yard run with 50 seconds left. Bridgewater State beat Coast Guard 41-22 in the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl last season, a game George missed with a broken foot.
