Women's Soccer - Bears Fall to Smith 5-1 Print E-mail
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/2/07)--Sophomore Etta Grover-Silva scored a pair of first half goals while classmate Dalyn Houser scored twice in the second half leading Smith to a 5-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Grover-Silva opened the scoring on a header from senior Natalie Sullivan in the 20th minute, but Coast Guard junior Jen Ferreira tied the game just 15 seconds later.

Grover-Silva scored off a corner in the 27th minute as Smith (2-6-1, 1-2) took a 2-1 lead into the half.

Sophomore Hailey Bird’s goal in the 75th minutes was followed by Houser’s first goal just 36 seconds later as Smith, which snapped a three-game losing streak, led 4-1 with 15 minutes left in the game.

Houser closed the scoring just 1:36 later.

Smith outshot Coast Guard 16-7 and junior Marlowe Dieckmann made three saves to record the win in goal for the Pioneers.

Coast Guard (1-9, 0-3) has dropped five straight.
