Volleyball - Bears Win Bates Invitational; Run Win Streak to 11
Senior Corinne McCormack was named the Most Outstanding Player as the Bears won the Bates Tournament.
LEWISTON, MAINE--(9/27/07)--Senior Corinne McCormack was named the Most Outstanding Player as Coast Guard was the only team to go 4-0 and captured the the nine-team Bates Invitational Championship running its winning streak to 11 straight on the season.
The Bears (12-2) had beaten both Bowdoin and UMass Dartmouth on Friday and then began Saturday by beating Colby 3-1 (30-23, 30-22, 24-30, 30-24) as junior All-America Nicole Gurr had 17 kills, four blocks and two aces while McCormack added 11 kills and five aces.
Junior Mary Bitzer had eight kills and three blocks, sophomore Courtney Wolf added seven kills and four blocks while freshman Ashley Bullard led the way with 38 assists.
Coast Guard closed out the Invitational by beating host Bates 3-0 (30-15, 30-22, 30-24).
Gurr and senior Megan Durbin joined McCormack on the All-tournament team.
